Tokyo based musician and producer Tominori Hosoya joins Scissor & Thread for an EP of tuneful ambience

Based in Brooklyn NYC, Francis Harris and Anthony Collins “Scissor And Thread” label has been steadily adding to its release schedule over the last decade – an outlet for their music and focus for the deeper edged electronic sounds bubbling under in their corner of the city.

For their 39th edition they turn to the exceptional talents of Tokyo’s Tomi Chair aka Tominori Hosoya. If you’ve yet to delve into his catalogue, the DJ and producer records under both names and never veers far from a lush, emotion swept mixture of warm synthesis that oscillates between ambient excursions and the dance floor.

‘Tropical Imagination’ is certainly in keeping with his vision, opening the A Side of the EP with the title track, he takes us towards the light with a thoughtful excursion into the essence of Techno Soul. Setting the tone with elegant chords, gentle percussion adds a silky funk as he layers additional synth parts and a reverb soaked piano. Accompanied with a ‘Dream Version’ mix, he strips the track back to its pads and atmospheres for good measure. He then rounds off the side with ‘Heat Exhaustion’, a beatless composition that drifts through drone like pads and occasional fragments of minor key melody.

Turning to the B Side, he begins with ‘We Are Here’ another powerfully restrained piece that centres on woody percussion, chorded progressions and brought together with his own found sound to create a magical whole. Label boss Francis Harris adds his touch to ‘Heat Exhaustion’ with his respectful re-version, adding skittering percussion and injecting an ambient house edge that builds and builds.
