Havantepe – Rain On Window – Vertex

Dub techno producer Havantepe resurfaces on Vertex with a new EP “Rain On Window”

Vertex is a label collaboration between maestros Andy Green at Verdant Recordings, and UK South coast techno emissary Jamie Bargeman who runs Exalt. With a mission to release underground Electronic music from across the deeper spectrum, their joint ventures have so far brought us releases from Octal Industries and Ian O’Brien that also feature exceptional artwork.

Coming together again for their fourth release, this time round the duo present an optimal offering from the studio of Havantepe (Ismail Genc). A highly regarded producer from Istanbul, Genc has been delighting dancefloors and vinyl aficionados with his elegant, meticulously produced take on dubwise techno that’s been satisfying discerning minds for the last 2 decades. His highly collectable and cherished releases have made their way to the likes of Baum, 200, Grounded in Humanity, Berg Audio, Luck of Access along with several tracks and remixes on Verdant. Which felt like the perfect juncture for Vertex’s next missive.

“Rain On Window” first started coming together when Andy and Ismail got to hang out in person at Genc’s home a couple of summers ago. The studio sessions that resulted gave birth to 5 tracks in total, 4 of which have made it to vinyl, with a bonus track that only appears on the digital release.

Kicking off in style, “Overcast” on A1 is a sublime slice of emotional Electro that blends classic 808 percussion with Genc’s signature feel and melodic leaning. This soaring cut really lifts the mood with warmth and precision, whilst retaining a dub sensibility that few can attain. Coupled with hot remix of “Rain On Window” from the Macedonian machine (and Verdant regular) Stojche on A2, his “Overdub” re-version reaches for steady riddim and lots of delightful airy touches that’ll leave you with a big smile as the sun comes up.

Heading to the B1, Genc ups the BPM and drops “Condensation At Night”, a precision roller that drifts along blissfully, wrapping you in soothingly layered soundscapes as each element finds its place and space. Title track “Rain On Window” injects more of a hefty touch on B2 as he moulds the space and puts more focus on driving beats and rumbling bass. All interspersed with finitely controlled stabs that work a treat. Rounding the EP off with insiders Ulf & Ralf who make their debut vinyl appearance on B3, their atmospheric beatless “Cloudburst” reconstruction of “Overcast” is an additional bonus that makes this another highly collectable EP, packed full of classy cuts you’ll find yourself reaching for time and again.

Note from the label

The vinyl is being repressed due to demand (available mid November 2025):
