A fresh selection of new music and videos

More new videos and music we discovered, bookmarked and liked…

In the right hands, music and video can be a powerful mix. Don’t just take our word for it, look around and see what pops up in and around your feed.

The amount of new material uploaded, beamed and streamed across the web on a daily basis is off the scale. Put it this way, any attempt to keep up is not a job for the faint hearted, and not something we have the time or attention span for. Hopefully, it’s a task we can train AI to help us with soon enough…

When it comes to tuning into the likes of Youtube, Instagram, and Vimeo, you can find yourself overwhelmed by a sea of pulsating zeros and ones. With all the major players swamped in an ever rising tide of content, figthing over what’s left of your attention to try and reel you in.

From skimming the surface though, the one thing that does stand out is just how much great talent and material there is out there. The level of quality and creative endeavour directors and artists dedicate to their work is as immense, as it is inspiring.

Uncover our latest picks

We’ve honed in on a fresh micro selection of new music and videos, we think deserve some of your ear time and attention. Hopefully, making it a bit easier to draw some inspiration of your own and at the very least – enjoy the sounds on offer.

Fcukers – Tommy

NYC group Fcukers are making waves, blending warped sonics with after-hours club grooves, resulting in a slice of something enticingly dark, throbbing and additive.
Reaching back to the streets sounds of 80s era Electro, their playful experimentation breezes through with a the accompaniment of a highly skilled, solo street dance routine on this video – performed by a sleek mover. A simple yet effective take, it perfectly sums up the feeling they bring.

Floating Points – Ocotillo

Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points is readying a follow up 2021’s Promises LP with a new solo album Cascade. Releasing the single “Ocotillo”, a fluttery instrumental zone-out that lasts for nearly nine minutes – moving from serene to scattered, nervous jitters that full embrace a club workout underpinned with footwork beats.
The video features a bubbling “alive paiting” concept from artist Akiko Nakayama – making the most of the combination of colours and water mixing in motion, strung together with timelapse that bring the essence of the music to life.

Marie Davidson – Y.A.A.M. (Soulwax Version)

Solo superstar Marie Davidson makes her debut release for Soulwax’s DEEWEE imprint. Landing with ‘Y.A.A.M.’, a pumpingly cathartic response to power dynamics within the music industry. Distilling the essence of their Belgium heritage and fusing it with nu-rave aesthetic, this solo to camera expressive piece was directed and produced by Davidson & Pierre Guerineau – all shot through a red gel for maximum rawness and effect.

Mount Kimbie – Empty And Silent (feat. King Krule)

Longtime collaborators Mount Kimbie and King Krule get together again for their song “Empty and Silent”, which appears on the band’s latest album The Sunset Violent. Drafting in the talents of Gregory Prestön who makes full use of an atmospheric sunset to film the vista in and around a small town (somewhere in USA?). He captures the mood with hazy feeling quite elegantly.

Wu-Lu – Daylight Song

Daylight Song is the new release from South London singer Wu-Lu since his acclaimed 2022 debut album, LOGGERHEAD. Inspired by growing up in Brixton, death and loss, and the sink-or-swim feeling of being thrown in at the deep end. This video is directed by Ethan Barrett, who sets the scene in a slightly dilapidated house under the cover of night, making full use of visual metaphors complete with twists and turns.
